In the past, Penguin has had many types of PACs, including the Penguin Advisory Council in 2021, focused on artistic leadership, and the Penguin Artistic Cohort in 2022, a multidisciplinary artistic ensemble. This spring, Penguin launched our Penguin Ambassador Cohort, acting as an intergenerational collective of Penguin stakeholders.
Ambassadors may include up to six youth (13-19) and up to four adults. Ambassadors meet monthly as a full cohort to build community, advance the organization’s strategic and artistic goals, and evaluate and improve accessibility pathways, striving to dismantle oppressive systems and co-create new ones. These meetings are led by Founding Director Shana Bestock, Producing Artistic Director Kyle Gerstel, and Producing Associate Tera Winter.
Each youth ambassador is expected to take on a project that they spearhead related to communications, development, and/or community outreach. All youth are paid a $150 honorarium per trimester for their participation, encouraging accountability for their leadership. Adult ambassadors are community volunteers.
Ambassadors are expected to be active participants in the life of the company. Ambassadors should expect to represent Penguin in the community, both at Penguin events and outside community events. Youth ambassadors are expected to participate in a Penguin program each term and all ambassadors are expected to attend performances when available.
Applications for this term are currently closed, but will reopen for the next term of the PAC!
“More than a theatre or arts education organization, Penguin is a community organization, and I hope theĀ Penguin Ambassador Cohort will further align our leadership model and programming with that mission.” – Producing Artistic Director Kyle Gerstel
